Bird Tattoo Ideas

Bird Tattoo Ideas

Hi, welcome to this blog post about bird tattoo ideas. I have been a part of the tattoo industry for a few years now, and in this blog post I’ll share with you some bird tattoo designs that I drew in the past few years.

Whether you’re looking to add another tattoo to your collection or maybe you’re looking for ideas for your very first tattoo, I hope this blog helps you.

Oberon Tattoos

The first idea was the result of a DM on Instagram from one of my followers in the month of July, 2022. I feel the design has a calm feel as it combines wisdom (owl) with grace and movement and elegance. I would describe this as a medium-sized bird tattoo idea, and of course there is an option to scale up. The ideal size, according to me, is 7 to 8 inches, maybe even 9 inches, so the details remain crisp. If you wish to get this as a large piece, the ideal size would be around 12 to 14 inches. The artist will have to add more texture to the feather and a bit of subtle shading.

In regards to placement, I feel the inner forearm is one of the best placements for this design. Other options for placement could include the outer forearm where the design’s slightly more visible than the inner forearm and the calf where there’s plenty of room for detail.

The second idea was the result of a DM on Instagram made in the month of March, 2023. I would classify this as a large bird tattoo idea. A medium-sized tattoo of around 8 to 10 inches is possible, but the artist will need to simplify the feather details. I feel this design would look best if done as a large bird tattoo with a size of around 14 to 16 inches so the feather texture can be fully appreciated.

When it comes to placement, my recommendations include the upper back between the shoulder blades, where the wings naturally follow the width of the shoulders; the chest; and the upper arm or shoulder, where one wing could wrap around the shoulder while the body sits on the outer upper arm.

The third idea was the result of an Instagram DM made in the month of April, 2023. I would describe this as a medium to large bird tattoo idea. A medium tattoo of around 6 to 8 inches is the minimum I would recommend. An ideal size would be a large tattoo idea of around 10 to 12 inches to allow for crisp feather details and cleaner compass points.

When it comes to the best options for placement, my recommendations include the upper back, where the wings naturally follow the shoulder line; the outer forearm, where the wings would wrap slightly around the arm; and the calf, which is in general a common placement for compass-style tattoos.

The fourth idea was the result of an Instagram DM made in the month of December, 2023. In regards to size, this is definitely a large bird tattoo idea. A medium-sized tattoo of around 7 to 8 inches is possible if the feather texture is simplified. This would look ideal as a large tattoo of around 11 to 14 inches to preserve the layered feather structure and wing definition.

When it comes to the best options for placements, my top recommendation is the upper back, where the wings naturally span the shoulders. The chest could also be a strong option if you want the design on the front of your body.

The fifth idea was the result of an Instagram DM made in the month of December, 2023. If I had to classify this design, I would classify it as a large bird tattoo idea. Turning this design into a medium tattoo concept of around 7 to 8 inches is possible, but the details of the feathers will have to be simplified. The ideal size for this design, according to me, is a large tattoo concept of around 10 to 12 inches, which preserves all the intricate details.

When it comes to the best options for placement, my recommendations include the upper back, the chest, the outer thigh, and the calf.

The sixth idea was the result of an Instagram DM made in the month of January, 2024. I will describe this design as a large bird tattoo idea. A medium-sized tattoo of around 6 to 7 inches could look good if the details are simplified. The ideal size for this design is a large-sized tattoo of around 9 to 12 inches.

When it comes to options for placement, the best placement is the upper back, where wings naturally span the shoulder blades. Other options could include the outer thigh, the calf, and the chest, where the compass sits over the upper chest.

The seventh idea was the result of an Instagram DM made in the month of April, 2024. I would describe this as a medium to large-sized bird tattoo idea. If you wish to get this as a medium bird tattoo idea, I would suggest a size of around 6 to 7 inches. If you wish to get this as a large bird tattoo idea, I would suggest a size of around 8 to 11 inches. The bigger size will help preserve the feather texture.

When it comes to options for placements, I would recommend the upper back where the symmetry of the raven and Vegvísir would suit the shoulder blades perfectly; the calf would work well for a medium-sized version; and the outer thigh, where the vertical layout would fit well with the wings wrapping subtly around the leg.
